REMEMBERING YUGANDHAR STRIYA WITH SWAMINI SAREE

Revealing the Strength & Intelligence Jijau

What author Diane Mariechild said about strong women is true – A woman is the full circle. Within her is the power to create, nurture and transform. Swamini Saree – Sadiyon Ki Maharani has always celebrated the achievements of women.

This single three-storied spacious AC showroom in Bizzyland Building, Phadtare Chowk, Kumthekar Road, offers every variety for dignified buyers, from traditional to designer & fancy, wedding, unique Paithanis & nauvaris, daily wear, and genuine Silkmark sarees.

And like always, Swamini Saree has honoured the strong ladies from the pages of history in its 2023 Calendar. Aptly title Yugandhar Striya or Women of All Ages, the calendar tells the stories of legendary women who made a mark on India History. For January, we throw the limelight on Jijau or Rajmata Jijabai Bhosale from Maharashtra.

Born on January 12, 1598, Jijabai was the daughter of Sindhkhed’s Lakhuji Jadhav and his wife Mhalasabai. The Jadhavs, a well-respected noble family, were the descendants of the Yadavas who once ruled Devgiri. Maybe, the fire of reclaiming back the region of Maharashtra for its own people and getting rid of foreign rulers came from her own family history.

At a young age, she married Shahaji Bhonsale whose father Maloji Bhonsale served as a prominent commander under Deccan’s Nizamshahi. Jijabai & Shahaji became parents to two sons – Sambhaji and Shivaji. Circumstances made Jijau take care of her husband’s Jagir – Pune where she went with her son Shivaji. Her husband’s faith in her in handling the responsibility was truly noteworthy.

She witnessed the badly managed Pune by earlier rulers and went ahead in developing the place with great consideration for the people. She also began telling her son Shivaji tales from our epics, Puranas and other religious texts which spoke of defeating the evil for the people. She inculcated in him the teachings to fight the powers controlling Maharashtra and carve out an independent future.

Slowly & steadily, Shivaji expanded his independent footsteps in & around Maharashtra. Every step towards Swarajya had backing from his wise mother. She quickly became Aausaheb or motherly figure to the whole of Maharashtra. She lived long enough to see her son become Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

When you mention Jijabai or Jijau, you think of a truly powerful woman who lived for the people. Her farsightedness is commendable as she ensured her son becomes the people’s ruler. Her personal losses did not stop her, right her from her maternal family’s treacherous murders to her son Sambhaji’s & husband’s deaths.  She inspires awe and natural respect amongst the public for her selfless work to creating an independent empire for the people where they live without fear.

As Swamini Saree has mentioned in the calendar:

जिने राखली अंगणात तुळस आणि टिकवले देवळावर कळस,

धर्म रक्षणार्थ दिला राज्याला वारस.

सुविचार, शौर्य, देशनिष्ठेचा संस्कार देणारी

महाराणी जिजाऊ
