New beginnings are filling our
lives. And in India, we have meaning behind every celebration. Makar Sankranti is
the first true auspicious festival to be celebrated with gusto.
At Swamini Saree – Sadiyon Ki
Maharani, the single three-storied spacious AC showroom in Bizzyland Building,
Phadtare Chowk, Kumthekar Road, has a range of sarees for every occasion, from
traditional to designer & fancy, wedding, unique Paithanis & nauvaris,
daily wear, and genuine Silkmark.
CELEBRATING MAKAR SANKRANTI
Makar Sankranti truly is all
about the movement of the sun which marks the change of season. The sun moves from
Makar or Capricorn sign into Cancer. This movement from Dakshinayana to
Uttarayana is celebrated as Makar Sankranti.
Environmentally, the cold winters
ends and brings in the start of spring. Brightness & optimism replaces
dullness & hopelessness. It is also the time when many parts of India go
into the harvest mode. Thus, Makar Sankranti becomes an occasion for the farming
community to celebrate their hardwork.
As per Lord Krishna in Bhagvad
Gita, the six months of Dakshinayana is the night of gods, while the six months
of Uttarayana is the day of the gods. If someone sacrifices his body in
Dakshinayana, he or she is reborn in Krishna Lok and gets moksha. If the person
dies during Uttarayana, he or she is reborn.
Since Uttarayana is associated
with gods and good work, the whole atmosphere gets a touch of
spirituality. Anyone
with spiritual bend can achieve Sadhana on this day.
Lord Surya or Sun God is
worshipped on this day. It is said that the river Ganga finally fell on earth
on this day thanks to the efforts of King Bhagirath. A dip in the Ganga or any
holy river on this day is considered good. Another story is associated with
Lord Shani who is also worshipped on this day with his father Lord Surya. The
father-son never got along but met on this day.
Various regions in India
celebrate in their own unique way. Punjabis celebrate it as Lohri in which they
have bonfire at night. Pongal in Tamil Nadu has the people celebrate the rice
& sugarcane harvest. In Gujarat, the kite festival attracts crowd from all
over. In Maharashtra, you see married women come together for Haldi-Kunku and
gift each other presents.
Special food gets prepared. In
fact, food items made from jaggery and sesame are specially made. Their health
benefits combat the winter troubles. Maharashtra celebrates Makar Sankranti by
making puran poli and sesame items like ladoos and papdi. We hear the phrase
‘Til Gul Ghya Ani God, God Bola’. It means have sesame and jaggery and talk
sweet things.
The colour Black comes into the
scene which is a taboo colour in Hinduism. Makar Sankranti happens to be the
last day of solstice and the coldest. Since black attracts heat, it helps keep
you warmer. And that is why many wear black attire on this day.
Many women do not have black
sarees in the wardrobe due to the inauspicious note attached to the colour. But
Makar Sankranti is the one day to wear it without worry. Newly-married girls
buy black saree to wear on this occasion.
And at Swamini Saree, black
sarees in various traditional. Fancy / designer sarees are sold in huge
numbers. The plush showroom is proud of being ahead in keeping the fresh stock
from all varieties. This year, you can find exquisite & exclusive Banaras
Sarees, Kolkata Sarees and Fancy & Designer Sarees as per preference and
